This thesis series investigates the role of the powerful female in our modern society. The term “powerful female” could be used to describe many different types of women; a woman that is successful in the workplace, a woman who is physically powerful in the athletic field, a woman who is unafraid to speak her mind, or a woman who is simply confident within herself. This thesis series will showcase the unapologetic woman. These images of the naked female body are not a tool to attract the male eye, they are used as a way to reclaim the female body as our own. I use scale to emphasize the size of the women I am painting. The positioning of the models will demonstrate confidence and comfortability in the amount of space these women are physically occupying- none of these women are sucking their stomachs in or trying to hide anything about their bodies. The goal of my thesis series is to desensitize the viewer to images of women who are not trying to abide by any beauty standards to fit into the mold of what our society deems “feminine”.
